I bought this player, a Pioneer DV-696AV, in 2006 for US$180 and was disappointed to find that the spdif output was limited to 48Khz. SACD is 88.2Khz and sounds vastly better. DVD-Audio is usually 96Khz or above.
So I did a search and found a project that would change the spdif output to 96Khz and 24bit using an AD1896 asrc IC and a Tent Labs xo module. I built and installed it with no problems and have been enjoying it for many years. You can get details of the project here.
